MUNICIPAL PARKS UPDATE (August 2012)
The Borough of State College and the Townships of College, Ferguson, Harris and Patton are always looking for ways to make their parks more enjoyable for the surrounding communities and 2012 saw many of those wonderful enhancements. The establishment of and improvements to municipal parks are funded by the owning municipality; park areas over 4 acres in size are then transferred to CRPR for regionally-funded maintenance and program services.
PATTON TOWNSHIP
Bernel Road Park - Located near the airport will soon be completed by Patton Twp. and turned over to CRPR for maintenance and programming. The park has an interactive airport themed playground for children, a pavilion, walking trails, 9 hole disc golf, tennis courts and panoramic views.
FERGUSON TOWNSHIP
Tom Tudek Memorial Park - Improvements continue to be made at the popular dog park with cooperation with Ferguson Township Public Works. An additional enclosure was added and new walkway installed. The dog fountain was relocated at the site for ADA accessibility. Phase 3 construction is underway and will include a youth ballfield, regulation-size soccer field, smaller youth-size soccer fields and a pavilion & drinking fountain.
Park Hills Park - New playground equipment was delivered and installation by Ferguson Twp. should begin in the near future. Improvements will be made for better drainage in the area as well as better accessibility for pedestrians.
HARRIS TOWNSHIP
Harpster Park - The 4 acre park is currently being constructed by Harris twp. and upon completion will be turned over to CRPR for maintenance. Amenities will include walking paths and benches.
